The Great Balancing Act: Achieving Balance

Perfectly Imperfect

on March 5, 2015

Time for the confession.

When I started this blog I wanted to inspire others to live happy and balanced lives but I came at it with this, “I have it figured out, follow me and we can be rock stars together” approach.  If I have learned anything since having my daughter in August 2013, it has been that of humility.  I have made friends and had experiences since having her that have humbled me into not only accepting my imperfections but embracing them; taking them by their seemingly devilish horns and uncovering the beauty and blessings that are underneath it all – kind of like polishing a tarnished penny.  Have you ever seen a gross-looking penny, staring at you from the ground?  Laying there completely untouchable in its gross-looking-ness but then you see a shiny penny on the street and you become kind of excited to find such a glorious blessing laying on the ground…

The purpose of my blog IS to indeed inspire us to come together as a community where we thrive together and live happy and balanced lives- but how much more meaningful and rewarding to do it by being real and humble about our lives.  We can’t grow or learn anything new if we can’t throw everything onto the table.

On March 2, 2015 my amazing friend Breanna and I flooded Instagram with random pictures throughout our Monday (#thebeautyintoday).  Breanna is a stay-at-home mom, home educator (un-schooler), mother of a teenager, an 8-year old, AND a toddler, AND if she could not be anymore amazing – the owner and creater of HiveVibes.  Go check her out HERE

Anyways, our original plan was to compare our days and debunk some myths about working moms and stay-at-home moms.  Honestly, I knew it would reveal that I get a lot more personal time and am not half as busy as she is.  But what ended up being revealed was something that I didn’t anticipate; how beautiful our messy and imperfect days are.  I loved getting to see her making quesadillas for the lunch because I wanted nothing more than to grab Mariah and run over to her house and join her and the boys for lunch, rather than eating my PB&J that I packed.  I loved getting to see her family flourish throughout the day-and they weren’t perfectly staged pictures with just the right filter; they were real. I posted my realness too and I look back at those pictures and am proud to have my messy apartment and my toddler with boogers on her face, imperfectly displayed for everyone to see. I love my messy place (not my apartment, but hey…) I LOVE my toddler – boogers and all. I love LIFE and I love to share and learn from others, like Breanna.

The realness of our lives IS what is inspiring and encourages the most growth.  So … It’s about to get real, real up in this Mommy blog.

So here I am, throwing all my laundry on the table (yup, I actually do that at home too).  I have a love and passion for growth – spiritually, as a wife and a mom, as a friend, at work…I want to learn and grow in these areas of my life and what I want more than anything is for ya’ll to do it with me.  We can work with each other, bounce ideas off of each other, and send love and encouragement when someone needs it.

So I want to know your thoughts, feelings – anything you are having at this point.  Any suggestions for future blogs are always welcome too.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to share in this journey with me.  I appreciate it more than you will ever know.
